How to Understand How a 401(k) Works

Congratulations on entering the real world. Now you should manage your finances by yourself. However, there is one benefit – you get an opportunity to take advantage of the 401(k) and amass a huge amount of money. It can be even called a “cheat code” for your future retirement.

What is the 401(k)? This is an amazing “pot” for your money which is taken from your salary. What’s great about it is that at the moment, the government doesn’t tax the money. Thus, you don’t have to pay as much as you thought before.

One of the best things about 401(k) is that your employer contributes some money to it. Many companies provide their employees with what is called “match”. This means you get extra money without having to work for it. Saying no to it would be like refusing the tip from the customer.

This money is used to buy some securities, including stocks of Vanguard 500. The magic happens here – this process creates some babies and those babies create more babies and thus you create a ball of money.

However, you can get access to this money only when you are 59 and a half years old. Otherwise, it is extremely expensive to take it out of 401(k). Imagine that you don’t have it until your retirement years.
