Being honest with you. You’ve definitely seen guys with all this fancy equipment on Instagram. However, a good knife is not about all this fancy stuff. This is about not being the one asking for a permission to borrow a pen to open your package.
Just think of your knife as a watch. Tool above everything else. Do you need a huge tactical sword? No. What you need is a small cutter that you could fit into your suit trousers.
First option is a Benchmade Bugout. This one is super light. It is supposed to be hidden until you will actually need it. And this is what matters most.
Or you may try the Spyderco Para 3. It has a bizarre hole in the blade. Looks strange at first but performs perfectly. You may use it one-handed while drinking coffee.
Do not buy some garbage knives from those gas stations, please. Their blades are usually of low quality. It gets dull fast and you look like a noob. 😅
Get Chris Reeve or Zero Tolerance knife. Yes, they cost a lot. But they will serve you forever. This is an investment.
Now hard part starts. Usage. Stop using it as a pry bar. It breaks easily. It is supposed to be used to cut stuff. Not as a tool for turning screws.
Just cut off that tape of your Amazon orders. Slice an apple. Open envelopes. This is the purpose of it. Nothing more.
Sharpening should be done. Dull knife is dangerous knife. It slips out of your hand and cuts you. Just get a Work Sharp field sharpener. It takes only five minutes.
Once in a month lubricate its pivot point. Pocket lint is your enemy. A dirty pivot makes knife feel cheap. Just make it clean.
Carry it with you every day. Build muscle memory. Then it becomes like your mobile phone. You cannot live without it. This is its purpose.
Just do not be that guy fumbling with all the packaging. Be the problem solver. Just do not try to open your beer bottle with your blade. I beg you. 🤦♂️
